The Nembo Lancia
A car that was never meant to become a one-off. Born in Modena in 1966, the Nembo Lancia was an ambitious prototype that could have become something much bigger. This is the story of chassis 001.
A CAR THAT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE UNIQUE
The Nembo Lancia was the result of an ambitious idea by the Modenese carrosserie Neri & Bonacini: a compact, mid-engined GT based on Lancia mechanicals. Only two prototypes were built. Chassis 001, the car you see here, is believed to be the first prototype.

In the mid- 1960's, Modena was more than Ferrari and Maserati. Smaller workshops and talented craftsmen were also experimenting with new ideas. Neri & Bonacini, already known for their special bodywork on Ferrari, Lamborghini and Iso, developed the Nembo Lancia as lightweight, mid-engined GT with Lancia Flavia 1.8 mechanicals.
What could be achieved if the entire car were designed around the engine?
The result was a low, compact and elegant car with clean lines, an aluminium body and a distinctly Italian character.
ENGINEERING
A SMALL MIURA
The historical description of the project called it, in effect, a "small Miura": a compact mid/rear-engined GT that used a production-derived engine and gearbox. The comparison is useful because the Lamborghini Miura had just demonstrated how dramatic a road car could become when the engine was moved behind the occupants. The Nembo pursued the same broad philosophy on a much smaller scale.
